Hooray! Yesterday, British mining giant Anglo American, the company that owned 50% of the interest in the Pebble Project, has pulled out of the project. And while this change does not signal the end to the madness of the concept of Pebble, I love a bit of a sting it puts on the situation. Just as public scrutiny begins to rise, one of the world’s largest mining companies pulls out, basically stating that the project represents too much risk. Our position–that there is no way Pebble Mine should exist–has now been loudly reinforced, and by the people who stood to gainthe most.
