Outdoor gear is not just equipment; it’s a critical aspect of any hunting expedition, playing a pivotal role in the success and safety of the adventure. The importance of high-quality hunting gear cannot be overstated. Here are some standout outdoor gear selections we highly recommend.
Black Hills Ammunition 6mm ARC 90 Gr. Dual Performance
New for 2024, Black Hills Ammunition is offering a 6mm ARC 90-grain monolithic projectile (muzzle velocity of 2,650 fps) as part of their Dual Performance line. These projectiles are solid-copper machined bullets designed to open immediately upon impact to form a large temporary wound cavity. After the bullets are fully expanded, the design allows the petals to shear off and continue with additional wound tracks through the stretched and stressed tissue—creating additional damage and blood loss. The remaining solid-copper shank of the projectile, now free from the drag of the petals, continues to significantly penetrate.

Stone Glacier Grumman Lite Down Jacket
The Grumman Down Jacket has been a mainstay clothing item on our hunts for several years. It works really well when sitting and glassing, but is a bit heavy when hiking. Enter the Grumman Lite Down Jacket. Ultralight yet packed with 850+ fill HyperDry goose down and a weather-resistant face fabric, the Grumman Lite hunting jacket provides the exact same functionality as the original Grumman but in a lighter model which we find works very well when stalking animals.
Outdoor gear for every adventure!
Kenetrek Mountain Extreme 400
Kenetrek makes many fine models of hunting boots suited to Alaska. The Mountain Extreme is one of their very best. It comes in a non-insulated version, as well as insulated versions (400 g or 1000 g) that feature Thinsulate for warmth without bulk. These boots provide incredible stability and protection in steep, rocky environments. Some key features include: K-Talon outsoles for traction, Windtex waterproof breathable flexible membrane, 7 mm nylon midsoles, anti-corrosion boot hardware, and 10” leather uppers with reinforced double- and triple stitching in high-wear areas.
Barnett Hyper Raptor Crossbow
With crossbow hunting legal in Alaska, we can see some new opportunities for hunters. We acquired one of these crossbows and so far, we are impressed with how accurately it shoots, how intuitive it is to use, and how easy it is to load. It requires some strength to cock this bow, so if you are in doubt whether you can do it, consider the upgraded option with CCD (Crank Cocking Device). With its compact and energy-efficient design, the Hyper Raptor sends small-diameter HyperFlite arrows downrange with incredible speed—up to 410 feet per second and with 142 foot-pounds of energy. We can see targeting a number of big-game animals with this crossbow.
